Why I'm unreachable and maybe you should be too (levels.io)

It's pretty much because they don't have to. If they lost their value eg in a digital stock wipeout or fraud or something, they'd be contactable pretty rapidly.

So, the advice reduces to: become astronomically wealthy compared to most people, and you too will be able to decide to do this.

I'm not resentful btw. I am just pointing out that to be optionally accessible they had to get to a place where nobody casually has contractual ties into them demanding responsiveness, and nobody formally expects them, and for most of us, bound to sources of income and lifestyle, thats just not possible. So, in that reductionist sense, the lifestyle (which demanded the money) is what permits the outcome.

The soft version of this is: ask yourself if you need to be contactable 24/7 and ask yourself if you need to be seen to respond, almost all the time. I got as far as taking work off my personal mobile phone, but I am stuck with work calendar being needed on the phone, to avoid work-life balance mistakes with time management.

To be fairer, its got FIRE qualities. He's not astronomically wealthy, compared to eg people who choose to work in a FAANG. He has the kind of money which you expect to have at retirement and will be living a highly budgeted life, in a sustainable manner from investment and income streams.

I think you underestimate the income the person who wrote this has. Haven't checked his stats recently, but it's close to $150K per month with very little overhead and high margins. But I agree with your point, being able to be unreachable is a luxury most people don't have.

Yes. I did underestimate. I thought it was annual not monthly.

Do we even know who this person is? No name is listed.
