Norse colonisation tended to reflect their origin e.g. the Norwegians colonised the north west of Scotland and Iceland, which were more similar to Norway; Danes went to England and Normandy which were more southerly, flatter and more fertile, much like Denmark; the Swedes with their long Baltic coastline turned their attentions eastward.

Denmark got the North Atlantic islands through the union with Norway, and retained them after Norway became independent.

Sloppy is extremely common, more so than slop.

Goy is the Hebrew for a Gentile (or a nation). However, while goyslop is an earlier coinage I certainly do not link it to AI-slop, but more to "sloppy".

"Goyslop" and "sloppy" are both derived from "slop". "Goyslop" meaning "slop of the goy variety" (equivalently to "AI slop"), and "sloppy" meaning "having the qualities of slop".

I was already aware of the term "goyslop" but I see it as a parallel development rather than the origin. I heard daytime TV programming being referred to as slop over twenty years ago. I don't think there are any antisemitic undertones for the word outwith the "goyslop" coinage.

Nah... I've heard the term slop used all my lifetime. Very common word, as is "sloppy". In fact, I'd connect it with sloppy in the sense of poor workmanship.

The UK would quite happily.

Universal Basic Income is not the panacea it's claimed to be.

UBI gives government more control over individuals' finances, especially those without independent means. Poverty is also the result of unfair taxation, where poor people face onerous taxes while receiving less and less in return, and the wealthy avoid tax at every turn. Or that it is difficult for people to be self-employed due to red tape favouring big business. UBI does not address those issues.

UBI also centralises control at the expense of local self-determination and community engagement.

Shallow dismissals are against HN Guidelines, https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

The term "shallow" is entirely subjective here. I have edited the comment accordingly because of your reaction.

Thanks for expanding the comment. For downvoters, the original comment was "Universal Basic Income is not the panacea it's claimed to be."

The problem is that does happen in real life. Intelligence services and organised crime work actively to hide their tracks. As do corrupt officials and some of the military.

We live in a society where corruption is rife and ordinary people are largely excluded from most major institutions ... That is the atmosphere that breeds these things.

Sitchin's biggest defence is that very few people can read cuneiform. Even less than hieroglyphics seemingly. Certainly less than Hebrew, Sanskrit or Greek. That means there aren't a lot of people able to dismiss his translations properly.

I don't see why it would require a "turtles all the way" down logic trap. There would be a few ET civilisations which would develop the long and hard way, but then they could accelerate or seed civilisation elsewhere. A sort of reverse Prime Directive.

Depends what you mean by large areas. Most of it is an kce sheet, the interior is uninhabitable and the habitable sections are hundreds of miles apart.
