As a complete guess, I would say that 90% of Linux systems are run by "big tech drones". And also by small companies using technology.

Open source operating systems are not a zero sum game. Yes there is a certain gravitational pull from all the work contributed by the big companies. If you aren't contributing "for-hire", then you choose what you want to work on, and what you want to use.

Only if you count Android phones as being run by Google ... which is exactly the problem we want to avoid with our PCs.

He kind of buried the lede, there's another MP3 to unlock them.

> Content about the United States government rolling through protesters in armored vehicles, killing people in Venezuela with bombs, and threatening Greenland, straight to top of feed.

Aren't these recent events? A better example would be showing US atrocities from the last 50 years, but not Chinese.

Or hiding the suffering of Ukranian and Iranian peoples.

I'm in South America.

If I doom scroll TikTok without cookies from a residence in South America, after a while, I will be presented with anti American propaganda showing videos of recent events or people speaking in Spanish about the atrocities that the United States is committing against Spanish speaking people that is recent.

I'm am describing objectively what I see.

The United States didn't want TikTok controlling what is visible to people in the United States so they banned TikTok. Later the United States offered allowing it to be sold to an American company.

Currently, there are two extremely influential forces for people under 25 years old in Spanish speaking Latin America, TikTok, a Chinese company, and an American music artist, Bad Bunny, who likely is the single most influential person in the Spanish speaking world. Let's stay tuned for the Superbowl.

I think most media is talking about the mess the US is in with ICE right now. For what’s worth I am in Europe and on X more than half of what I see is about American cops and ICE , most against ICE but some in support of it.

Do you believe God was listening to the prayers and influencing the people at the abortion clinic? From what I read the lady was standing there and not blocking free access. The law says you may not influence.

> Do you believe God was listening to the prayers and influencing the people at the abortion clinic?

No, the woman was there tying to influence other women’s healthcare, something she had no right to get involved in.

Edit: The police did screw this up - the clinic was closed. She also received a payout.

Framing this as ‘thought police’ is wrong, the issue was her presence.

A lot of people died that did not have to, they are certainly comparable. Russia and Ukraine are a better comparison; Putin says that Ukraine doesn't exist and that he was forced to by NATO, etc.

The IRGC had "no choice" if they wanted to remain in power; but they did have a choice.

It costs less to run because less energy is used; I'm pretty sure incandescent bulbs aren't emitting anything by themself! "The push" is from the government, perhaps consumer demand is "the pull".

They do emit a lot of heat!

Almost all the energy consumed by appliances in your home gets ultimately converted into heat. For example, the picture on your TV is made from emitted light rays that are absorbed by various solid objects in your home and heats them up. Same for the sounds from your speakers. Your washing machine spins water and clothes around, which makes both the water+clothes and the body of the washing machine to heat up due to friction.

A counter example is a water pump, which converts electricity into gravitational potential energy of the water as it flows upwards.

Not sure about the point of your comment. Ok, doing work generates heat. But if the primary goal is to generate light, not heat, then incandescent bulbs are terrible at their job.

which is not that bad if you want to warm your room a bit. The heat is not wasted, but added to the room. We use 250 watts to warm under the coffee tables. These are infrared-coated incandescent bulbs

What if it's a hot summer night? :)

My point was about efficiency of the generation. You want the light, you don't necessarily want the heat.

Save heating for the (efficient) heat pump.

Here's a story about what the FBI may do when they don't unlock the laptop:

https://cointelegraph.com/news/fbi-cant-be-blamed-for-wiping...

Perhaps next time, an agent will copy the data, wipe the drive, and say they couldn't decrypt it. 10 years ago agents were charged for diverting a suspect's Bitcoin, I feel like the current leadership will demand a cut.

This is my biggest fear wrt gov't search-and-seizure. I know the police won't be able to get at my juicy encypted bits, but I also know they're vindictive basterds who'll be held to no accountability. Of course they'll wipe my drives just to get revenge for me "winning" by having blocked their access.

backups backups backups. give one to your grandma she wont crack the encrypt

CW: Do you use AI for anything?

GG: I don’t really use it period. I miss the Wikipedia blurbs being at the top of webpages. If I’m looking up a simple math fact that I don’t know—like what the weight of something is—I’ll look at the AI summary, but I never, almost never, hit the expand button.

Holy rationalization Batman

If you don't like their politics, you could buy the company and change them.
